Welcome

Welcome to the University of Nottingham Polo Club! My name is Eliza, and I am delighted to be your President for the 2024-25 academic year.

On behalf of the entire club, I extend a warm welcome to you. We are a vibrant and inclusive community where individuals of all skill levels, from seasoned players to complete beginners, are welcomed with open arms. Joining our polo club is a wonderfully flexible way to engage in sports at the university level, as we have no mandatory training sessions - allowing you to participate as much or as little as your schedule permits.

Our club boasts a remarkable mix of players, some with extensive polo experience, others who have never ridden a horse before. Regardless of your background, you will find a supportive and nurturing environment in which to develop your skills and passion for the sport. Our lessons, led by our much-loved Coach Grant, cater to all ability levels, ensuring a comfortable and enriching learning experience.

One of the unique aspects of our club is the emphasis we place on both the sporting and social elements of the university experience. From polo balls and soirees to cinema outings and beloved Crisis nights, we strive to provide a well-rounded array of activities that cater to all interests and preferences. Whether you seek sober or social gatherings, there is something for everyone where you will have opportunities to create lasting connections with your peers.

I joined the University of Nottingham Polo Club in 2022, eager to explore a new sport at a university level. As a lifelong rider, I was delighted to discover that I could continue my equestrian journey during my time here. The taster sessions offer an excellent introduction to the sport, and I can assure you that once you experience the thrill of polo, you will be hooked.

A common misconception about polo is that it is an exclusive sport reserved for the affluent. However, our club is dedicated to making the sport accessible to all students, regardless of their financial means. Most students cover the costs themselves through managing their student loan, job or good budgeting.  We strive to subsidize lesson packages and tournament entry fees, ensuring that the cost does not become a barrier to participation. Moreover, we provide all the necessary gear, so you need not worry about the initial investment.

Joining the University of Nottingham Polo Club has been one of the most rewarding decisions I have made during my time at university. The memories and friendships I have forged through this club will undoubtedly last a lifetime. I wholeheartedly encourage you to join our club and discover the joys of polo for yourself.

I look forward to welcoming you to our club and witnessing your growth as a player and a valued member of our community.
